Problem
VELOVE Uni ZH runs free repair sessions for students. The old website was hard to update, slow on phones and did not make the most important information — when and where is the next repair session? — easy to find. Volunteers change every semester, so the site has to be maintainable by people who are not developers.
Approach
- Content first: interviewed volunteers and visitors, then restructured the site around three tasks: find the next session, learn what can be repaired, get involved.
- Next.js with static generation for speed and zero-cost hosting; session dates come from a single data file that volunteers can edit through GitHub’s web editor.
- Accessible, mobile-first design with large tap targets, high contrast and bilingual content.
Result
The new site is in progress. The first version loads in under a second on mobile and costs nothing to host. Next steps: a simple booking flow and an editing guide for future volunteers.
